Three letters, 1861-1863, from Edward Hall Armstrong (1841-1864) of Wilmington, N.C., student at the University of North Carolina and captain in the 3rd North Carolina Regiment, written to his father; charges, 26 November 1862, against Captain Armstrong for failing to carry out an order; a photocopy of a Mexican War order, 3 May 1847, transferring P.G.T. Beauregard (1818-1893); a letter, 1925, from the North Carolina Soldiers Home, Raleigh, N.C.; and a letter, 1957, from Julien Dwight Martin to Colonel Owen Kenan concerning the Armstrong items. The letters from Armstrong are from Chapel Hill, N.C., 20 April 1861, about reactions on campus to the impending crisis, and from Winchester, Va., 23 October 1862, and Orange Court House, Va., 2 August 1863, about war news and troops needing blankets.
